ABOUT THE WATCH

"The St. Louis Schools Watch was founded on the premises that parental and community involvement are needed for good schools to flourish, and that public participation is a cornerstone of democracy. The Watch offers information and analysis that we hope contributes to a public debate over what changes are necessary to improve St. Louis public schools, and what works."

Downs wants to contract with a firm on a master plan? Isn't that what the Superintendent should formulate for us? I was a Downs/Jones supporter and this sounds a lot like another Alvarez mess to me--not at all what I expected. The educators of our district should come together and do this, don't spend more of our money on this stuff!

Sure the agenda says "a" master planning firm when in truth I'm sure it is a very specific, preselected master planning firm who has already been met with and is preselected in the minds of some. What happened to all the vision, insight and ambition that these board membersn professed to when they were running for office. It never ceases to amaze me how someone on the inside, allegedly in the loop who claims to be an expert can be so quick to beg for outside help (from a for profit company). What if this master planning firm's master plan is not feasible or doesn't pan out? Do we get a refund? I would sure like some of the $$ back that Roberti cost us!! If Ron Jackson can't help come up with a plan, he needs to let somebody who can! Lead, follow, or GET OUT OF THE WAY

Will there be a discussion concerning the the possibility of not renewing the contract with Sodexso?

Giegerich is reporting in the pd that Bourisaw has abandoned a lot of Williams reforms to concentrate on attendance and accreditation.

It makes sense to me---from the outside---but from those closer to the action----what is going on?
