ABOUT THE WATCH

"The St. Louis Schools Watch was founded on the premises that parental and community involvement are needed for good schools to flourish, and that public participation is a cornerstone of democracy. The Watch offers information and analysis that we hope contributes to a public debate over what changes are necessary to improve St. Louis public schools, and what works."

Veronica O'Brien is incorrigible. She acts like a spoiled child. Mayor Francis Slay should rue the day he appointed her to the board. And Governor Matt Blunt should take note of the kind of judgement Slay has when if comes to school board appointees. Back off, Blunt! Let us handle this.

That's sort of a dangerous argument to make.

Since her appointment by Slay to fill a vacancy, Ms. O'Brien has won citywide election -- and was selected board president by the other members of the elected board. Maybe what the governor should take note of is the failure of an elected school board?

O'Brien's flippant, sarcastic attitude is embarrassing and unacceptable. Behaving like a spoiled child should not be her role as a officer of the school board. She needs to get over herself and get to the business of educating children. "Veronica, you make yourself look like a fool."
