ABOUT THE WATCH

"The St. Louis Schools Watch was founded on the premises that parental and community involvement are needed for good schools to flourish, and that public participation is a cornerstone of democracy. The Watch offers information and analysis that we hope contributes to a public debate over what changes are necessary to improve St. Louis public schools, and what works."

School Board "Not Good Role Models"

By Antonio D. French

Filed Wednesday, November 22 at 12:48 PM

Jeanne Weber, president of the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) at Metro High School, told the members of the St. Louis School Board that they are not being very good role models for SLPS students.

She also said they should support Superintendent Diana Bourisaw's efforts, as she and her family does.

I'm not around Ms O'Brien on any type of a regular basis, but from the behavior I witnessed during the school board meeting, she is definitely no role model. As stated by Ms Weber, she payed very little attention to any of the speakers up until that point. As someone elected by the people, is she not supposed to at least listen to our opinions and feelings? I don't really care if her personal friend didn't receive the salary she promised. She shouldn't be promising certain people anything, as this district can't apparently afford to make sure it has toilet paper and soap in their bathrooms. She wanted to put a freeze on hiring. Where was this freeze before Mr Bonner was hired? Or should that be in effect now since the person she wanted hired, is now hired? Congrats to those people in HR that did the right thing when she stomped around demanding for people to enter the salary she promised. At the meeting she couldn't even pronounce the name of one of the principals in the district. Shouldn't she know who the principals in the district are? Or at least be familiar with their names? My goodness woman, what did we vote for you for? Listen to the people in your district. Leave the superintendent alone. She is doing a fine job. Or perhaps you seem to think you can do a better one?
