St. Louis Public Schools is bringing back its quarterly newspaper. A new issue of School & Home, which had won several Missouri and National School Public Relations Association awards before being discontinued several years ago, was recently mailed to the homes of all St. Louis Public School students.
The first issue, which focuses on back to school, gives information on the school district's parent resource center, health and wellness, helpful homework tips, and more. Interim Superintendent Dr. Diana Bourisaw and School Board Pres. Veronica O'Brien are featured columnists.
"We want to provide parents with important information they need to make sure their children get off to a good start," said Bourisaw. "We also want to share positive school news with the community."

There is either an error in the newspaper or on the online school calendar. The newspaper states that Parent Conference/No Students is on October 20th and the website calender states that it is on October 27th. Now which is it? Us working parents have to make arrangements to be off on those days! And WHERE on the calendar does it state that classes for Early Childhood begin on September 5th and NOT on the 28th!!! My child is in ECSE and everything sent to us (and the numerous recorded phone calls from the district) stated school was to begin on August 28th. Only when I called the school to ask a few unrelated questions did I find out she was begin on September 5th.

Anonymous,
Those are some great observations and questions, especially regarding the parent-teacher conference date. (I didn't catch the discrepancy.) I hope you also addressed these to someone down at 801 through the slps website.
I am also wondering about times on parent-teacher conference day....Will there be any evening hours for working families? What is the earliest time a parent can get into school? And, is everyone (school staff) going to lunch at the same time...so if a parent runs over on their lunch hour..will they be able to see someone? Oh, looks like I just gave myself some homework, too!
I personally am glad the Home and School is back! It has always served as a valuable resource for me.
