ABOUT THE WATCH

"The St. Louis Schools Watch was founded on the premises that parental and community involvement are needed for good schools to flourish, and that public participation is a cornerstone of democracy. The Watch offers information and analysis that we hope contributes to a public debate over what changes are necessary to improve St. Louis public schools, and what works."

Advisory Committee Meeting Today

By Antonio D. French

Filed Thursday, August 31 at 8:58 AM

The special five-member committee appointed by State Education Commissioner Kent King last month to analyze the current state of St. Louis Public Schools is meeting today -- and unlike its last meeting, today's session is open to the public.

The committee will meet at the Washington University West Campus building (the old Famous-Barr in Clayton), 7425 Forsyth Blvd, at 3:30 p.m.

Here is a video from Commissioner King's July 27 announcement of the committee, its members, and its mission:

What about parking for the event? Wash U generally has no free parking, this could cut down on people attending.

Why was this held in the county and during the work-day? That certainly doesn't encourage city residents to be engaged.

Said the man who is blogging on his computer at 3:04:52 PM. Go and have a look. Then report what you see. If it is scandalous. Well, then it is scandalous. Would not be anything new.

I agree with Travis. I would have liked to attend but I am a working (outside the home)parent. They released the chains long enough for me to blog on my afternoon break.

Yes, I also am in agreement. How is a meeting held @ 3:30pm and announced today that it is open to the public in reality "open to the public"? Most of the public works and needs more time to make arrangements to leave work to attend a meeting in the afternoon. Maybe that's the scandal!(that's a joke!)

Actually, I was able to blog at 3:04 in the afternoon because my 3-year-old daughter was down for a nap at the time. My parental duties aside, I would have endeavored to be at the meeting.

I think they meant the person blogging @ 12:21pm actually. They were the one using the word "scandal" and "go have a look" so not quite sure the reference to your time blog Travis!
