ABOUT THE WATCH

"The St. Louis Schools Watch was founded on the premises that parental and community involvement are needed for good schools to flourish, and that public participation is a cornerstone of democracy. The Watch offers information and analysis that we hope contributes to a public debate over what changes are necessary to improve St. Louis public schools, and what works."

Williams' Contract

By Antonio D. French

Filed Friday, June 30 at 5:00 AM

Since we obtained a copy of Superintendent Creg Williams' contract last week, after a formal Sunshine Law request, we have received many requests for information about its contents. As a public service, we are making it available for download.

Click here to download the 9-page document.

This is a PDF so you will need the free Adobe Reader program installed on your computer to read it.

He has a lot of work and I hope the board of education keeps him around for ten years. He is a great leader!

Yeah, great leader! He uses a district vehicle and a security officer to be paid at time and a half to go have dinner and gambling fun at Harrah's. Now that's a leader with discretion, isn't it?!!!! While others lose their jobs, he takes advantage of a severely strapped district for personal pleasure.

Speaking of security, I find it both hilarious and ridiculous that in order to attend a School Board meeting, one must go through a cache of security officers, a metal detector, and personal searches, while to attend a Police Board meeting (where the Mayor is in attendance), you go through none of this, and to attend a Board of Aldermen meeting, you go through a metal detector and pass a single non-chalant guard.

I have nothing against school guards, we need safe schools, but why does the School Board and Superintendent need such a show of force with their own private army? Let the guards do their job of guarding the assets of the district, not the self-important leaders.

Travis, you certainly are destined for great things with such clear thinking. This is the first superintendent who lives blocks from the office who has a security guard come to his apartment in a school district security vehicle and drive him to and from work everyday along with anywhere else, including dining and gambling.

Makes one think of some of those corrupt leaders in Africa who bleed their nations and care less about the needy people of their countries. Has St. Louis become Zimbabwe?

Oh, my GOSH!!!! I can't believe that we're even talking about how this man gets to and from work. Is that the best attack on the man we have? Has it ever occured to anyone that when driving hours are spent concentrating on the road and getting to your destination safely. Instead Dr. Williams can use that same time to do SLPS business. I think its a very smart idea as a leader (making every second count during a full day that might go all the way till 9p.m. becuase he has to attend a banquet, etc. We should not judge him just becuase WE don't have that same luxury....and it probably is Peter Downs making all the fuss. Evil, Evil, Evil.

Last anonymous, wrong, wrong, wrong! It's employees and retired employees. Previous superintendents were actually certified to be superintendents (he isn't), and they didn't feel so entitled. As most people know, some great thinking can take place while one is driving.

This is not a plutocracy! The man has very rich tastes.

Another reason to rein Williams in. That is all we need is another administrator who has champagne tastes on a beer budget.
